Mental Performance Consultant
Clare holds a Master of Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Counselling from Athabasca University. She joined the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta as a practicum student, under the mentorship and supervision of Cal Botterill, and has been with the institute for over 25 years.
Clare combines her expertise in mental health with an understanding of performance psychology to help athletes, coaches and professionals thrive in high-pressure environments.
Clare currently serves as the Mental Health Lead at the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta and runs her own private practice supporting the sport community in both mental performance and mental health. Her experience spans all levels, including youth through to Olympics and Paralympics, , World Championships, and the Canada Winter Games. She has also played an integral role in advancing mental performance and mental health support at Mount Royal University and the National Sport School.
Clare has worked with athletes across all stages of development. Known for her empathic, humanistic, and client-centered approach, Clare builds strong, trusting relationships and delivers tailored, evidence-based interventions to meet the unique needs of each client.
As a dedicated advocate for mental wellness in sport, Clare is committed to fostering safe, inclusive environments where individuals can reach their full potential both on and off the field of play. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Clare is also a parent to two children who are actively involved in high-level sport—giving her a personal understanding of the challenges and rewards that come with sport.
